Frequently Asked Questions
If your question isn't answered here, just ask us!
what's it going to cost?
Our design fee is based on the number of conceptual layouts you want to choose from for your brochure design. Two layouts are $450 and three are $600. Usually, one or more of the layouts will meet your needs and of course you can request to combine elements from each layout into one if you like.
how many revisions do I get?
As many as it takes, but realistically that usually means about two rounds of changes, sometimes three. The bottom line though is that we want you to be thrilled with your brochure and if that takes four rounds of changes, so be it.
what about photography?
We'll use your photos (300 dpi) or we'll buy stock photos for you. If you choose to have us buy stock photos, we'll always use lo-res comping images until you give us the "go-ahead" to buy them. (You establish the photo budget in the Creative Brief.)
what does 4/4, 4/1 or 4/0 mean?
Full-color printing is also called process color printing and there are four process color inks, cyan, magenta, yellow and black. So these numbers refer to the number of inks printed on each side of the sheet of paper. If a piece is one sided, then it is printed 4 over 0, or 4/0. In the same way, a two sided piece is normally printed 4/4, but in some cases it could be printed 4/1, where the 1 would be black ink.
what does 72 hours or 3 working days mean?
When we refer to 3 working days, we mean 3 business days. We are open for business Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mountain time. For example, if we get your 2-layout order at 4 p.m. on a Friday afternoon, we would have the proofs ready the following Wednesday by 4 p.m. (3-layout orders take one day longer.) 3-layout orders that come in on Saturday or Sunday will have proofs ready on the following Thursday, though possibly sooner.
what is full-color printing?
Full-color refers to printing with process color inks, or cyan, magenta, yellow and black, which is a process of printing any color by combining amounts of CMYK to achieve that color. Some colors reproduce more accurately than others using CMYK and you should be aware that some color shifting can occur when using this process. If very accurate color is important to you, it is important to mention it when submitting your files, as we cannot be responsible for normal color shifts. Related to this is the problem of colors looking different from one computer to the next during the proofing process. Generally, they will be similar, but again if color is critical to you, mention it to us.
how do I send files?
In most cases, send your files as email attachments. If your files are too large to send that way, we'll give you instructions on uploading them to our server. And if all else fails, you can put them on a CD and ship them to us, in which case please be aware that our turnaround schedule will begin when we receive your files.
